Governance of the Covid-19 Pandemic in Europe

Call for Papers for a Special Issue of the European Journal for Security Research. Deadline: December 31, 2021

The Special Issue brushes on the governance of Covid-19 pandemic in Europe from an interdisciplinary perspective. Researchers from all disciplines are encouraged to apply, theoretical and empirical studies of about 8000 words are welcomed. Interested researchers are invited to hand in their articles until 31.12.2021 via the website of the European Journal for Security Research: https://www.springer.com/journal/41125

In general, the Special Issue aims to reflect on different regimes of regulation, namely legal, ethical, political and administrative responses to Covid-19 as well as on the different experiences within Europe.

In particular, but not restricted to, the following topics are of interest:

  • Reflection on best practice/worst practice in single European countries as well as comparative reflections;
  • Indicators and measurements of health risks and the associated societal and economic consequences;
  • Risk management: different levels, phases of Covid-19 response and patterns, problems and learning in and through crises with focus on the role of administration, health authorities, emergency services, law enforcement and security services among others;
  • Technological answers and counterstrategies in the context of the Covid-19 pandemic and their societal consequences (COVID-Apps, databases and data management, digital services, contract tracing and tracking);
  • Societal understanding of risk and uncertainty in the context of the Covid-19 pandemic; risk awareness, risk avoidance and coping strategies.

The Special Issue is planned to be published in April 2022. The guidelines of the European Journal for Security Research must be followed for the submission of manuscripts: https://www.springer.com/journal/41125/submission-guidelines

Guest editors of the Special Issue are Prof. Dr. Rahel Schomaker and Prof. Dr. Stefan Braum.
