Postdoctoral Researcher (f/m/d) in Sociology

The Max Weber Institute of Sociology at Heidelberg University invites applications for the position (100%) of a Postdoctoral Researcher in Sociology (f/m/d), starting at the latest on 1.4.2026 for a period of four years. The position is affiliated with the Chair for Empirical Macrosociology (Koenig) and offers the opportunity for academic qualification (R2), preferably in the fields of religion, migration, and/or human rights.

Your responsibilities:

  • You will develop and carry out your independent research project
  • You will contribute to teaching in sociology (teaching load is 4 hours per week during the semester) and to supervision of undergraduate theses
  • You will cooperate with the Chair’s research team and within the MWI

The following qualifications are required for this position:

  • You have obtained an excellent MA degree in sociology or a neighboring field
  • You have recently completed your doctoral dissertation in sociology
  • You have strong interests in theory-driven global, transnational or comparative sociology
  • You show advanced skills in methods of empirical social research
  • You are committed to innovative teaching
  • You have an excellent command of English and German; additional languages and/or area expertise are an advantage

Remuneration is based on the TV-L scale.
