Ideologies and Networks Across Borders: The Transnational Far Right

14. - 16. Oktober 2026
Organisator: Universität Leipzig
Veranstaltungsort: Universität Leipzig

The German Right-Wing Studies Knowledge Network (Wissensnetzwerk Rechtsextremismusforschung, Wi-REX) cordially invites international researchers focusing on right-wing extremism to participate in the conference, "Ideologies and Networks Across Borders: The Transnational Far Right," in Leipzig.

We particularly welcome papers and posters dealing with—but not limited to—the following research areas:

  • The (seemingly) global rise of authoritarianism, far-right movements, and fascism, including transnational connections among right-wing actors, parties, and networks
  • Conspiracy theories and the normalization of right-wing narratives
  • Ideological diffusion, as well as continuities and discontinuities with historical far-right movements, including contemporary manifestations of antisemitism, racism, and Social Darwinism
  • Anti-"gender ideology" movements or opposition to feminism and queer rights, especially where these serve to forge connections between extremists and other right-wing actors (e.g., religious or conservative groups)
  • The role of women in (international) right-wing populism and extremism
  • Far-right actors’ use of social media and gaming platforms to mobilize new adherents
  • Far-right uses of artificial intelligence and technological salvationist rhetoric
  • Far-right mobilization in the workplace and in multinational or transnational labor contexts
  • Far-right ecologism or the instrumentalization of the climate crisis by the far right

The conference venue is located in the heart of Leipzig, a vibrant university city in eastern Germany, which can be reached from Berlin in about one hour by train. The closest airport is Leipzig/Halle Airport (approximately 15 minutes away by train). We are offering travel support to researchers without institutional affiliation. If you wish to apply for such support, please indicate this in your email when submitting your abstract.

The conference is organized by the Wi-REX team at Leipzig University, with additional support from the University of Luxembourg through the Marie Speyer Gender Excellence Grant.

Papers will be jointly selected by

Note to PhD candidates: A summer school for PhD candidates will take place immediately prior to the international conference, beginning on October 13. For more information, please visit wi-rex.de or contact Dr. Verena Schneider (verena.schneider(at)uni-leipzig.de).
